In the first quarter of 2025, TikTok removed over 24.2 million videos from Pakistan — a staggering number that has once again sparked a nationwide debate over freedom of expression, content moderation, and digital rights.
Pakistan continues to rank among the top countries where TikTok takes the most enforcement actions. But while the company claims these removals are for the sake of community safety, critics argue this may represent a deeper issue — the silent expansion of digital censorship.
Pakistan and TikTok: A Complicated Relationship
Since its rapid rise in popularity, TikTok has walked a thin line in Pakistan. The app has been banned multiple times by PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority), usually over allegations of “immoral content”, “obscenity”, or “national security concerns.”
However, this time the crackdown is not state-imposed — it’s internal moderation by the platform itself. The scale of takedowns raises crucial questions:

اس رجحان کا سب سے خطرناک پہلو صرف ویڈیوز کی حذف کاری نہیں، بلکہ کریئیٹرز میں ابھرنے والی خود ساختہ سنسرشپ ہے۔
